Morihara Lau & Fong’s Land Use, Environmental and Natural Resources Practice Group brings extensive experience to Hawaii’s highly specialized land use, environmental & natural resources field. The Group has been involved in several groundbreaking development projects. For example, the Group secured all discretionary permit approvals for the largest planned privately owned marina in the State, and obtained an amendment to the Honolulu General Plan to facilitate visitor accommodations.
This Group has unparalleled knowledge of Hawaii’s multi-tiered and intricate land use scheme. On the Federal level, the Group has obtained major permits and worked with the Army Corps of Engineers in publishing draft and final environmental impact statements. On the State level, the Group has extensive experience in the permitting and approval process, and has assisted in drafting and interpreting administrative rules. The Group also has experience in all aspects of contested case land use proceedings before State agencies and judicial appeals. On the City level, the Group has obtained land use permits and approvals necessary to construct all phases of a project, including rezoning, zoning boundary adjustments, conditional use permits, SMA permits, joint development agreements, planned development permits, variances, and subdivision approvals.
